Title: it was his idea for
Post by: navi on August 28, 2013, 12:18:21 pm
Which are correct:
1-He came up with that idea for his wife not to leave him.
2-He came up with that idea so that his wife would not leave him.

3-That was his idea for his wife not to leave him.
4-That was his idea so that his wife would not leave him.

Gratefully,
Navi.

#2 is the only one that sounds natural.

Thank you very much Darryl for all your kind replies.

What do you think of these:

a-It was his plan so that his wife would not leave him.
b-It was his plan for his wife not to leave him.

c-It was his plan to keep his wife from leaving him.

They are all supposed to mean the same. I am pretty sure 'c' is correct.

Gratefully,
Navi.
