I see them unhappy.

(1) I see them unhappy.
(2) The fire burned them black.

In (1), does "unhappy" modify "them"?
I am not sure of the grammar but I feel it's like (2).
The adjectives seem more tied to the verb than to "them".

Oh, once again, so much depends on context...
1, Could be - I see them (as) being unhappy. But, in contest, your sentence could be fine,
2. Is fine - depending on the context.
