singular or plural
« on: November 09, 2021, 02:49:19 pm »
MSWord spellchecker problem:

"Protection cover for optical viewport"

MSWord underlines "cover" and wants to change it to "covers" (it says "double-check that you're sticking to singular or plural").

Can anybody enlighten me why one would think a plural is needed here?

MS is wrong! Protection is functioning as an adjective here so "cover" is the singular noun concerned.
Best wishes,

Thanks. Unfortunately, MS is quite often wrong. On the other hand I do appreciate it capturing typos or even real singular-plural mismatches.  ::)
