more of a technician
« on: April 03, 2021, 04:16:18 am »
Which are correct:

1) Tom is more technician than engineer.
2) Tom is more a technician than an engineer.
3) Tom is more of a technician than an engineer.

4) We are more technician than engineer.
5) We are more technicians than engineers.

6) Tom is the most technician of all our employees.

Gratefully,
Navi

The third option sounds the best among them and there is something fishy about "more technician" and "more technicians" but I can't explain what...

I don't like #4 and #6 really doesn't make sense to me. The rest are fine.

As marvin93 points out, #3 is, perhaps, the most common current form; #1 and #2 are a little old-fashioned, but perfectly correct and acceptable.
Best wishes,

Duncan
