1) I had altogether a lot of fun doing it.

Is the sentence correct, and if it is what does 'altogether' mean in it?

Not really; though you might hear it said.
Altogether means a total or completely.
There were 3 of us in the room wearing red shirts and 3 of us wearing green shirts; so there were six of us in the room altogether.
I am not altogether sure he was telling the truth.
Notice the word order.
