About Lydbury English Centre
We are a very small, independent training centre which is why we are able to provide a truly personal service. Our absolute maximum number of clients in residence per week is 10. The maximum average number of participants in any training group is 4. We provide a variety of course formats including all 1-to-1, combinations of 1-to-1 with small group training, and closed group training.
We are specialists in English for Business and Professional purposes. We work almost entirely to the corporate sector and our ‘students’ are typically middle to senior managers ranging in age from their 30s to 50s. (The minimum age is 23).
Regular corporate clients include Siemens, Lafarge, Michelin and a variety of banks and financial institutions. We do also have some individual clients such as doctors and lawyers, and we have worked with the Swedish Workers' Council.
Most of our participants need to concentrate on communications skills for presentations, meetings, email writing, report writing, social English, negotiations and talking about projects and products etc.
We are well established (1985) and employ a team of professional, highly experienced, regular trainers. We are accredited by the British Council. Our professional affiliations include membership of EnglishUK; we are founder members of BusinessEnglishUK and BEsig (the Business English special interest group) of IATEFL (the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language).
Our course organisation is unique. We structure all programmes around individual needs. To achieve this we ask participants to complete a pre-programme questionnaire before the start of the course. We follow this up with an in-depth needs' analysis on the first day. The pre-programme questionnaire can be found here and the application form can be found here – You can find further basic course information on our Course List page. We organise the programmes in accordance with synergies - matching skills, language and cross-cultural needs for group work. Individual needs not shared by other participants are addressed in 1-to-1 sessions. In this way, each participant follows a truly individual course, only participating in activities directly relevant to his or her requirements. He or she can enjoy the benefits of one-to-one as well as group interaction.
We are also committed to 'accelerated' or ‘whole brain’ learning approaches. We invest significantly in staff development and have developed our own, unique set of accelerated training materials.
Lydbury English Centre is located in a village, in the heart of Shropshire. It is central to some of the best tourist, historic and cultural areas in Britain. Stratford-upon-Avon, Chester, Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham are all easily accessible, for either a day trip or a weekend. Shropshire, which is very close to the border of Wales, is an extremely beautiful part of the country and participants find it very easy to relax and learn very quickly here.
We accommodate participants either in our own residential ensuite rooms, in private houses in the village, or in the village coaching inn (all with private bathrooms and within 2 minutes walking distance of the Centre).
All participants eat lunch and dinner in our own dining room during the week as an essential part of their immersion in English.
We hope this provides you with all the information you require but, of course, please do not hesitate to contact us if you wish to discuss anything further.
