Are these sentences correct:

1) That he should acknowledge that he has made a mistake will mark a moment in history.


2) For him to acknowledge that he has made a mistake will mark a moment in history.

The use of "that" twice is rather awkward.

2) For him to acknowledge that he has made a mistake will mark a moment in history.
This one is better, but it's still rather clumsy with the phrasing.

These are grammatically correct but rather clumsy sentences above.  See my comments above.  There may be various ways to recast them, but here are my suggestions.
  • Acknowledging that he has (or had) made a mistake will mark a moment in history.
  • To acknowledge he had made a mistake marks a historical moment.
