Flies play an important role in ecological balance.  Their larvae provide food for some fish and some birds and second to bees in pollinating flowers and fruits. In some areas (especially in the US) flies are used to control fire ants.

Flies are there for a purpose.

Yeah, I guess so, but it's probably our meddling with the ecology that started the plagues in the first place. When you've got millions of sheep and cattle producing nice stinky manure, you're going to get flies. I believe the flies are not as bad since the introduction of the dung beetle (one of the sensible introduced species).
And not all of Australia is fly infested. The more wet tropical areas are not so bad. The arid lands are the worst and flies will seek any bit of moisture from around your eyes. They get up your nose and every outback Australian has swallowed a fly or two.
Anyway, there's always the Aerogard.

This article seems to be quite comprehensive--more than you may wish to know to about bush flies!

Reading "Lassie, Come Home" made me cry.
I think pets play an important part in our childhood.
Bertha, if you like Lassie, maybe you would like this picture of my dog. Lots of people call her Lassie.

Great looking dog!  But that's Darryl's dog not mine, Bertha.  I don't have a computer to use till middle of next week. Typing on phone is hard so I will be quiet for the time being. Cheers!
